What is the BLACK X xKey?
The BLACK X xKey is a compact remote device that lets you unlock your BLACK X smart lock without using a smartphone or a key.
It connects to the lock over Bluetooth and is ideal for simple, quick access, for users who prefer a keyless entry.
How It Works
How do I unlock the door with the xKey?
Bring the xKey within range of the lock and press the unlock button. A single beep confirms the lock is ready - turn the knob to open the door before it re-engages automatically.
Does the xKey require a smartphone to unlock?
No. Once paired, the xKey works standalone - no phone needed for everyday unlocking.
Pairing & Setup
How do I pair an xKey with my lock?
- Open the BLACK X app and go to your lock's settings.
- Select xKey, then Add xKey.
- Choose the access period for the person you're assigning it to - Timed, Unlimited, or Recurring.
- Activate the xKey itself by pressing and holding its unlock button for 5 seconds.
- Select it from the list in the app.
Connectivity & Range
How does the xKey connect to the lock?
The xKey uses Bluetooth to communicate with the lock - no Wi-Fi or phone connection required at the moment of unlocking.
What is the xKey's operating range?
Up to 33 feet (10 meters) from the lock. Obstacles or interference between the xKey and the lock can reduce the effective range - move closer if the lock doesn't respond.
Battery
What battery does the xKey use?
A single CR2032 battery. If the xKey stops responding entirely, replacing the battery is the first thing to check.
