Sustainability at BLACK X
At BLACK X, sustainability is a core part of how we design, manufacture, and deliver our products. We own our production facility, which allows us to maintain full control over environmental standards, labour conditions, materials, quality, and long-term practices. We believe that innovation and sustainability must work together to support the future of smart security.
Ecovadis silver rating
BLACK X has achieved a Silver Medal rating by EcoVadis for 2025/26, placing us in the top 15 percent of companies worldwide for sustainability performance. Our overall score is 76 out of 100, an improvement of 8 points from the previous year, placing us in the 93rd percentile globally. Our strengths include environmental management, labour and human rights, ethical governance, and sustainable procurement.
Our factory and renewable energy
We operate our own production site, allowing us to implement sustainability measures directly at the source. During 2025/26 we began the installation of a solar power system across the factory. When fully operational, solar energy will provide up to 60 percent of our total electricity consumption, significantly reducing our carbon footprint and improving long-term energy efficiency. This is a key pillar of our sustainability roadmap.
Environment and climate action
We work continuously to reduce environmental impact across all manufacturing and product lifecycle stages. Our energy measures include solar integration, high-efficiency machinery, and low-energy lighting systems. We reduce waste through recyclable metal components, reduced plastic usage, FSC-certified packaging materials, and lean production processes that minimise scrap. We use responsible packaging and QR code digital manuals to reduce paper consumption. All materials are compliant with REACH and RoHS regulations.
Responsible operations
We uphold strict ethical standards within our operations and supply chain. We comply with international labour laws and ILO conventions. We prohibit forced or child labour and ensure safe, healthy, and legally compliant working conditions. Employees receive fair wages, reasonable working hours, and access to training and development. We maintain strong workplace safety programmes, and we support diversity and inclusion across the company.
supply chain and procurement
All suppliers must comply with our environmental, ethical, and quality standards. We conduct annual audits covering safety, labour, ethics, and environmental compliance. Materials must meet traceability and documentation requirements. Our procurement approach prioritises recycled and recyclable materials and eliminates non-compliant substances.
Product sustainability
BLACK X products are engineered for long life and reduced environmental impact. We use durable, recyclable materials and minimise plastic wherever possible. Electronics are designed for energy efficiency and safe battery management. All smart products comply with EU and UK battery regulations, WEEE requirements, and responsible disposal practices.
Digital responsibility and cybersecurity
As a connected smart security platform, BLACK X follows strict data protection and cybersecurity standards. We comply with GDPR, CCPA where applicable, and relevant global privacy regulations. We use encrypted communication, secure authentication, regular penetration testing, and secure cloud infrastructure. These measures protect user data and ensure long-term digital safety.
Governance, ethics, and transparency
Our Code of Conduct covers anti-corruption, fair business practices, legal compliance, confidentiality, and data protection. We maintain an ESG governance structure that reviews sustainability policies annually, with oversight from senior leadership. Supplier and partner compliance reviews are a core part of our ethical governance.
Reporting and future roadmap
Our sustainability roadmap for 2026–2027 includes full operational integration of solar energy, expanded carbon footprint assessment including Scope 1, Scope 2, and key Scope 3 categories, increased recycled content across products, continued plastic reduction, enhanced supplier sustainability alignment, and regular publication of ESG updates. We aim to continuously improve our EcoVadis performance year on year.
