What is the BLACK X Euro Modular Smart Lock?‍

The BLACK X Euro Modular Smart Lock is a smart cylinder system designed to replace a standard Euro profile cylinder, with added flexibility through its modular construction.

It combines robust mechanical security with advanced smart access control, enabling full management through the BLACK X App.

Unlike fixed-size cylinders, the modular design allows the lock length to be adjusted to fit a wider range of door thicknesses and configurations.

The lock supports multiple access methods, including smartphone control, compatible accessories (if purchased), and mechanical backup keys.

Designed for greater installation flexibility, it offers a precise fit, reliable performance, and complete access control.

Unlike fixed-size cylinders, the modular version features adjustable sizing, allowing it to fit a wider range of door thicknesses and configurations.

Will the BLACK X Euro Modular Smart Lock fit my door?
The lock is designed to replace standard Euro profile cylinders and is suitable for a wide range of door types thanks to its adjustable modular design.

The modular version supports the following adjustable size ranges:

• 70–90 mm
• 90–110 mm
• 110–130 mm

To ensure compatibility, you need to measure your current cylinder:

• Measure from the center of the fixing screw (middle of the cylinder) to the outer edge of the door
• Measure from the center of the fixing screw to the inner edge of the door
• Record both measurements (for example: 40/50 mm)

Your total length should fall within one of the supported modular ranges.

Important:
The modular system adjusts in 5 mm extensions. Your required size must match one of the available configurations.

How does the modular adjustment work?

The modular cylinder can be adjusted using 5 mm extensions.

• Extensions can be added to one or both sides
• Maximum extension is 10 mm per side (2 × 5 mm)
• Extensions do not have to be equal on both sides

The cylinder is adjustable in fixed 5 mm increments, not continuously.

This means the final size must match one of the supported configurations.
Sizes that fall between increments (for example, 113 mm) are not supported.

Examples:

• 35/35 base → up to 45/45 (90 mm total)
• 45/45 base → up to 55/55 (110 mm total)
• 55/55 base → up to 65/65 (130 mm total)

Can I extend one side by more than 10 mm (for example 15 mm on one side)?

In some cases, it is technically possible to modify the modular cylinder beyond the standard configuration using additional components such as bridge extenders.

For example, a 90–110 mm modular cylinder can be adjusted by increasing one side by 5 mm and the other side by 15 mm to achieve a specific overall length.

This type of configuration is available as a professional service in the UK through Avocet, where cylinders can be pre-configured to customer-specific sizes before installation.

For customers outside the UK, only the standard modular configurations are supported.

Installation & Setup

Is installation complicated?
No. Installation is quick and straightforward, with no drilling, wiring, or door modifications required.

Do I need to calibrate the lock after installation?

‍No. The lock is ready to use immediately after installation with no calibration needed.

How do I determine the door orientation?

‍If the hinges are on the left, the door is left-handed.If the hinges are on the right, the door is right-handed.Use the red marker for left-handed doors and green for right-handed.

Access & Usage

How can I unlock the door?
You can unlock the door using multiple methods:

• Smartphone via the BLACK X App
• Optional accessories such as xPad, xPad+, or xKey
• Mechanical backup keys

This gives you full flexibility depending on your needs.

Can I still use a key?

‍Yes. The lock includes 2 mechanical backup keys, so you always have a backup access option.

How do I use the mechanical key?

In addition to smart access via the BLACK X app or the xKey, the lock can also be operated manually using the mechanical key when preferred or required.

• Firmly hold the knob to prevent it from rotating
• Insert the key into the keyhole
• While holding the knob, turn the key clockwise
• Rotate the knob clockwise to open the door
• To remove the key, hold the knob, turn the key counterclockwise, and pull it out

App & Connectivity

‍How do I pair the lock with the BLACK X app?

Open the app and create your BLACK X account before beginning installation.

Ensure your phone’s Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are enabled before attempting to pair.

1. Download BLACK X App from App store or google play.'
2. Open the BLACK X App.
3. click on ‘install a new lock’.
4. Name Your Lock or choose a description.
5. Create a ‘Home’ to associate with your lock.
6. Choose the ‘Home’ for your lock.
7. While in "Discovering Nearby Locks" mode, use the Allen key to press the connect button on the BLACK X device.
8. When a pop-up for the correct lock appears, click "Connect" to proceed.
9. Congratulations! You’ve successfully connected your first lock.

Battery & Power

What type of battery is required for BLACK X locks?
The BLACK X device requires a CR2 battery, commonly used in cameras and electronic devices.

What is the battery life?
The lock is powered by a CR2 battery and offers up to 3 years of battery life under normal usage.

Where can I buy CR2 batteries?
